My wife has titanium framed sunglasses that can literally be crumpled and they go right back into original shape…seems like aftermarket SWs could use that same property to create a more forgiving wheel that still would not permenantly collapse like the cheap one shown in the video where he smacks it with both arms and it just crumpled ….ya know??

I would never replace a great Flat Bottom Steering Wheel with a Circular steering wheel.

I would think that aftermarket steering wheels could be made deliberately “soft”/bendable (edit OR flexible titanium? see my other post)? Perhaps with a nice pad also over the nut/horn point….really I don’t understand why they don’t optionally provide for some kind of airbag even if it is significantly less of one than the OEM? Maybe it only inflates to 1/4 size of OEM keeping it smaller but still offering SOME protection?? If all the aftermarket companies went in to together they could perhaps engineer and produce such in significant numbers to lower the cost?

OKAY final post….WHAT if similar to modern airbag motorcycle suits a car driver simply wears a vest with integral airbag?? Perhaps it comes with sensor you stick on inside the bumper and then it “talks” to your vest via radio remote of some type? Now you have advantage of an airbag AND your coveted aftermarket wheels? Yes??
